Our Genesis: Driven by Lived Experience
H.O.P.E. Wins Detroit was founded from lived experience, resilience, and a deep commitment to healing and community transformation. The organization emerged from the recognition that many individuals in Detroit, particularly survivors impacted by violence, the criminal legal system, poverty, and systemic inequities, face significant barriers to safety, stability, and opportunity. Yet, within every survivor exists profound strength, wisdom, and the capacity for healing, growth, and leadership when provided with the right support and community.
Our founder understands these realities not only through observation, but through lived experience and direct engagement with survivors and the communities most impacted. These experiences revealed critical gaps in services and underscored the urgent need for compassionate, trauma-informed, and community-rooted solutions. At the heart of this work is the commitment to creating survivor-centered and survivor-led spaces where individuals are treated with dignity, their voices are honored, and their leadership in their own healing is supported.
From this foundation, H.O.P.E. Wins Detroit was created to build pathways toward healing, empowerment, and opportunity. Through restorative practices, mentorship, advocacy, and community-based support systems, the organization works alongside survivors to help dismantle barriers created by systemic injustice and foster environments where individuals can reclaim their power and thrive.
Today, H.O.P.E. Wins Detroit remains guided by the belief that transformation begins with listening to and trusting survivors. By centering lived experience and elevating community voice, we strive to empower Detroit residents to heal, rebuild their lives, strengthen their families, and contribute to a more just, compassionate, and hopeful future for the entire community.

Many survivors face significant barriers, including trauma, poverty, and systemic inequities, while seeking safety, justice, healing, and stability. Too often, these systems overlook the resilience, wisdom, and potential that survivors carry.
